TCE Tax prep starts January 2025

Tax Counseling for the Elderly

Free Income Tax Preparation For Seniors 60 Years & Older, as well as people with disabilities.

This program will operate from January 27 to April 15, 2025 BY APPOINTMENT ONLY!

In addition to the above-staffed sites, the CCE Madison Business Center in Morrisville will be open for facilitated self assistance where seniors can complete their own returns on CCE Madison’s computers utilizing IRS software at no cost. The Center will be available on Mondays from noon to 3 p.m. beginning February 3 and continuing through April 14, 2025. The Center will also be available on the following Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon –February 8, March 8 and April 12, 2025. During these hours, a certified volunteer will be available to assist individuals and answer questions. If you wish to take advantage of this option, please call 315-684-3001, ext. 101 to assure a volunteer will be available.

Volunteers Needed

The Tax Counseling Program for the Elderly (TCE) in Madison County is seeking volunteers to assist in preparing tax returns for individuals age 60 and over, free of charge. Volunteers will receive training and support with IRS certification. It's a great opportunity to learn new skills and connect with people in the community while giving back. We have sites in Oneida, Chittenango, Canastota, Cazenovia, Hamilton and Morrisville.

What you need to bring.

To file your 2024 tax return you must bring:

  • Last year’s tax return
  • Proof of Social Security for anyone being claimed
  • Picture ID such as a driver’s license
  • Tax information received from banks, brokers, employers, etc. such as W-2s and 1099s
  • If you own a home valued at $85,000 or less and you are over 65 you may be eligible for a NYS rebate.
  • If you own your home you may be eligible for the enhanced NYS STAR program which will save you money on property tases.
  • If you are a NYS Volunteer Firefighter and Ambulance worker, you can receive a credit or your service.
