Patty Stimmel grew up in rural north central Indiana surrounded by corn and soybean fields and her mother’s vegetable garden. She wandered her parents 60 acres by foot and by 4-wheeler, identifying plants, birds and other wildlife and gathering wild things for crafting, eating and making teas. She grew and tended a medicinal herb garden while still in high school, creating concoctions and using her parents as guinea pigs. She graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Public Horticulture in 1999. Her adventures took her to Pennsylvania, Maine, back to Indiana, and finally to New York where she started a small self-sufficient farm focused on doing everything by hand and growing fruits and vegetables. Her focus is to provide small scale agricultural, ornamental/small homestead horticulture and self-sufficiency programming to Madison County residents. She is also coordinator of the Master Gardener Volunteer and the Seed to Supper programs and the voice behind the Spotify podcast: Fridays with Patty - hot helpline topics from the Master Gardener Volunteer helpline.
