MAD Ideas brings top thinkers to Madison County from universities and colleges around Central New York to share their “Mad Ideas” and research topics. The lecture series spans a wide variety of topics, including agriculture, youth development, health & ecological sustainability.
About Chris Scalzo:
Hello, I am Dr. Christopher M. Scalzo, a professor at SUNY Morrisville. I have been teaching for over 20 years in accounting, management and entrepreneurship. Before starting my career in teaching, I worked 16 years in the private sector for large and small firms such as a comptroller, credit auditor, accountant, budget analyst and credit analyst. I hold a Doctorate of Business Administration (D.B.A.) from University of Phoenix, an M.B.A. in Finance at St. John Fisher College and a B.S. in Finance/Economics from SUNY Brockport.
While teaching at SUNY Morrisville, I have had the chance to complete a number of volunteer consulting overseas with four organization that worked on the Farmer-to-Farmer program for the USAID that included:
- Working with dairy farmers in Honduras in accounting and financial analysis;
- Completing strategic analysis and an accounting system upgrade in Kenya for a food producer;
- Doing accounting, financial analysis and strategic planning with organic food value chain members in Lebanon;
- Performing value chain analysis of green bean farming in Kenya for Fortune Sacco,a financial and savings firm;
- Completing statistical analysis for a financial institution in Malawi; and
- Working with staff, faculty and administration of Kabba College of Agriculture on training and creating a strategic plan.
I am married and have three children. My oldest daughter is married with a Master’s degree. My middle daughter is working on her PhD in Chemistry. My son graduated with a BBA in Business Administration and is working on his M.B.A. with a focus on public accounting so he can achieve is C.P.A. My wife and I like to travel, workout and see new places. We have visited Western Europe, Central Europe, Ireland, Scotland, Canada and Alaska.
